EMPIRE WIRELESS.
AUSTRALIA THE PIONEER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. -London. Sept. 8. Commenting on the South African Government’s action regarding wireless, Mr. Fiske points out that South Africa had followed the Australian example of establishing direct communication with Britain by a station on commercial lines equipped with modern valve transmitters. The agreement also protects the Government from difficulties owing to patent infringements, but the Government does not have such an effective voice in the management as in the case of Australia. The Australian scheme is much more comprehensive, because it provides feeder stations and for the re-equipment of the entire coastal service, and also provides communication to isolated places inland. Canada was the pioneer of the Pacific cable, which reduced' the cost of communication; Australia had become the pioneer of direct wireless communication among all parts of the Empire, further reducing the cost of communication.
