WONDERFUL WIRELESS.
The marvellous progress that has -been made in bringing about the development of wireless telegraphy and telephony is indicated by the fact that both in New Zealand and Australia schemes have been evolved for broadcasting news and establishing radio services to enable residents in all parts of the country to receive daily, in their own homes, vocal and instrumental music and other entertainments. When it is remembered that the practical inception of wireless telegraphy took place, experimentally, as recently as in the year 188 S, and that wireless telephony by Hertzian waves was first accomplished publicly in 1906, it will at once appear how great have been the progressive strides that will now enable people in the remotest bankblocks, as well as those in the cities and towns, to listen to the news of the day and to concerts, entertainments and lectures given hundreds of miles away. Wireless has passed through, the experimental stages, and has now become a definite (business that can be relied upon as fully as the telegraph or cables, over which it has manifest advantages. The Dominion Government deserves the commendation of the community for making practical use of this modern marvel of science by evolving a scheme of broadcasting that will avoid the chaotic conditions experienced in America. Such a service as is proposed in New Zealand should have the effect of revolutionising life in the country districts, while it will afford amateurs infinite pleasure and interest. No longer will settlers in the backblocks be cut off from the happenings of the world or from entertainments, lectures and other breaks to the monotony of their existence, as it is intended to cater for the public interests. Tn the near future, as soon as all the details are arranged and the apparatus obtained, this marvellous system will be at the service of the community, and should prove an immense boon.
