SHIPPING FLEETS WANTED. BUILDING UP CONTINUES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 8, 1.5 a.m. London, September 6. The German efforts to build up a more powerful mercantile marine are continuing, following on the recent purchase of old vessels, ostensibly for breaking up. The Times states there is reason to believe German companies have made a definite offer to re-buy certain German liners delivered under the terms of the Peace Treaty. In all cases the prices offered are substantially greater than those paid by the present
owners to the Reparations Commission, to whom the ships were in the first instance delivered. The vessels are required for services between Germany and America. The British companies so far have declined to sell.—United Ser-
