IRISH WARFARE.
MANY SERIOUS CLASHES, DE VALERA A PRISONER. UNCONFIRMED REPORT. 9& Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 7. It is reported that de Valera and Childers have been taken prisoner. The latter was wounded. London, Sept. 6. The Nationalists surprised a large ambush at Glencowane. One Irregular was killed and twelve taken prisoner. The Irregulars attacked army posts at Waterford. A woman was shot dead and another wounded. Nationalists in Donegal surprised an Irregular flying column and captured all without firing a shot. They subsequently found 6000 rounds of ammunition, htty bombs, and other munitions in an adjoining house. Nationalists at Ennis surprised and captured 35 Irregulars. The Nationalists have captured a printing machine on which the current issue of the Irregulars’ propagandist sheet was being printed. The Irish Times champions the right of a new Centre Party to be born into Irish politics. The Times says the old southern Unionists are not only willing but anxious to assist in making the Free State. The old constitutional Nationalists will be glad to join them. There are many men of character and ability in the ranks of Sinn Fein who will find themselves almost naturally members of the new Centre Party. If the Free State makes a good start, Irishmen who have achieved distinction in other lands will add strength and prestige to the Moderate Party.
