LONDON WOOL SALES. Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 4th instant:— Wool Sales.—There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and French buyers being active, and prices, as compared with the close of the preceding series, ruled higher by about par to 5 per cent, for fine and medium crossbred and merino. Coarse crossbred is about the same as a£ August 3. THE STOCK MARKET. PRICES AT WESTFIELD. Auckland, Last Night. Prices at Westfield to-day were: Beef.—A good yarding and prices firm at last week's quotations. Light-weight cattle a little better; extra-choice ox 24s per 100 lb, prime ox 235, other 13s to 18s; young cow and heifer beef 17s to 21s, other Ils fe 16s. Calves.—An average yarding sold at late rates; runners £2 15s to £4 10s; heavy vealers £2 to £2 15s, medium £1 10s to £2, light £1 Is to £1 10s, fresh-dropped 3s to Bs. Sheep.—A fair yarding and prices better than last, week; extra-heavy wethers to 375, good wethers 30s to 355, others 22s to 28s; best ewes 31s, good 24s to 28s. Pigs.—A large yarding and prices showed a further decline; heavy beconers £2 5s to £3; mediums 35s to £2 2s, porkers 25s to 325, stores 8s to 15s. Lambs.—-A small yarding; best 28s 6d, good 24s to 265, others 19s to 225.
