TOUR OF AUSTRALIANS. • DRAWN GAME AT NELSON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The Australian hockey team opened their New Zealand tour against Nelson this afternoon, in idea! weather and before a large attendance. After a strenuous game the match ended in a draw, four goals each. This was the first game in which the visitors had played together, and they gave a good exhibition, showing clean and clever stickwork. There were some good individual players, especially Abel, who played a great game at centre half, while Seaman (forward) and Harry (full-back) were noticeable. The ground was in good condition, but it could clearly be seen that the Australians were used to playing on a smooth surface. With one or two more games they should develop into a fine combination. The score at half-time was two all. Play was very willing in the second spell, and some fine passing movements were shown by both sides. Australia were the first to score, quickly followed by Nelson, who a few minutes late*’ rained a goal advantage, but Australia almost immediately equalised. Until the call of time hard play ensued, and in the last minute a strong forward rush by Nelson took the ball to the circle, where the goalkeper saved in the nick of time.
