POWER FOR AUCKLAND.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. By Telegraph -Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 5. A deputation of the Auckland Power Board met Mr. J. G. Coates to-day to urge the immediate construction of the transmission line from Hamilton to Auckland. The deputation explained that, in the belief that the Horahora scheme was part and parcel of the Arapuni scheme, and that all disputes had been settled, the board had made heavy commitments. The increased power from Horahora would be available in March, 1924, but the Government did not intend to put the line through till 1925 or 192 G. Mr. A. Wylie, the board’s engineer, stated that the present plant was overloaded, and additional power from the new unit would be absorbed within two years. The Minister stated that this altered the whole aspect of the matter. The Auckland demand for power was apparently greater than was expected. He would review the matter and answer the question to-morrow.
