Dr. Curley, Catholic Archbishop of Baltimore, preaching at Athlone, said he was, leaving Ireland horrified and etupified with the picture she presented. Ireland had been described as a country from which the “foreign foe” had departed and where the Government was in Irish hands, yet the ditchee and hedges were lined with young men waiting to murder their brothers. They were ruining the land and shaming their people.
