Richmond took nine wickets for 21 runs. Newman played to-day, having apologised to both captain* for the barracking incident the previous day. Leicester, 143 and 7G, beat Gloucester, 73 and 72. Astill took six wickets for 28 runs and four for 37, and Geary four for 42 and six for 26. They bowled throughout both innings. ' Kent, 196 for nine wickets (declared), beat Sussex, 47 and 126. Freeman, in the second innings, took eight wickets for 56 runs. This is only the twelfth time; a bowler has taken 17 wickets in a firstclass match. Warwickshire made 244 runs against Surrey 104 for two wickets. The match was abandoned, owing to rain. The match between Essex (who had five runs on for one wicket) and Yorkshire was also abandoned for the same reason.' Yorkshire wins the county championship, with a percentage of 73.89; Notts, 71.53; Surrey, 66.95; Kent, 63.70. Yorkshire’s averages are: Batting—Oldroyd 45.11, Sutcliffe 44.10, Rhodes 39.36, Holmes 39.18; bowling—Rhodes 84 wickets at a cost of 12.71 runs, MacAylay 120 at a cost of 13.31, Kilner 101 at a cost of 14.38, Waddington 127 at a cost of 14.40. Notts’ averages are: Batting—Hardstaffe 45.03, Carr 37.74, Payton 34.77, Gunn 33.95; bowling—Richmond 169 wickets at a cost of 13.48, Barratt 109 at a cost of 16.33, Matthews 37 at a cost of 18.02. Surrey’s averages are: Batting: Hobbs 63.48, Sandham 46.96, Fender 39.78; bowling—Lockton nine wickets at a cost of 19.33, Gentry 25 at a cost of 19.48, Fender 143 at a cost of 19.49.—Au5.-N.Z.
