Pall (resident wrote stating that as the work UrUti-TAngitu deviation was ’sufficiently advanced to enable the ’fencing to be undertaken, he/‘would be pleased if • the council would make arrangejnents to have the necessary, plan purvey completed. so that the fence lines could be defined.—lt was decided to instruct the engineer to undertake the necessary’ i survey.

The Inglewood County Council wrote stating that a loan was being raised to settle Inglewood’s . liabilitv to the Clifton County on account of the adjustment of accounts between the two councils, and it was hoped to make payin’ent on October 3.

The Department of Health notified that an amount of £25 was considerably overdue to the department on account of the health inspector’s salary. —It was decided to forward a cheque for the amount.

R. B. Townley, Public Works engineer, Tongaporutu. forwarded an application for permission to eredt a private telephone line from his premises to the Tongaporutu telephone office.—The clerk was authorised to endorse the application. D. G. Rowe wrote atating that the old Mangatoro bridge was causing a big block of timber and endangering the new bridge. He offered to remove the obstruction provided he was given th? iron work of the old bridge.—Cr. Jones said there was a quantity of good timber in the bridge which could be used for countv work. The matter was left in the hands of Cr- Jones. On the motion of Cr. Barnitt it was decided to take steps under the Public Works Act. to acquire certain land, held bv G. W. Rogers, to give access to Mowatt’s property on the Okoke Road, all exnenses to be borne by Mowatt. J. B. Carr. Okau. rec.uested the council to clean out drains on the Okau Road and also asked permission to move his road fence out to the drain. If the permission were given he would be prepared to keep the drains in order. —Cr. Jones said it would cost £1 per chain to clean the drains, hut this price was considered exorbitant by the council.—The matter was left in the hands of Cr. Jones. . . The Public Works Department notified that Freeth’s Road had been legalised. GENERAL.

The chairman reported that the eouutv motor roller had been hired to the Borough Council at a given price. The Borough Council found its own driver .’end benzine, and when the accounts were submitted a balance of only £1 13s wes left to the county. The benzine consumption was stated to be 18 cases fnr 7 1-8 days’ work. This was considered an unreasonable consumption, and it was deckled that, councillors should interview the Borouogh ..Council regarding the matter. The receipt of a letter regarding road reserves gave rise to a discussion on the subject, Cr. Bernitt expressing dissatisfaction with the amount of revenue being received from these reserves. On the motion of Cr. McKenzie, the chairman and Crs. Barnitt and Foreman were appointed a committee to go into tjie matter of leasing reserves and report to thp council. It was decided to take action against certain carriers for breaches of the heavy traffic by-laws.
