. THE TARANAKI SOCIETY. GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING. The general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Soeiet* was held at. New Plymouth yestdr<fliJF. Present :-r Messrs. W. B. Grant (chairman), A. E. The secretary reporM\ that 79 en- ? tries had so far been received for the ; calf-rearing competition in connection with the boyand' The secretary'o-f 'the boys’ and gitls* clubs (northern division,)- forwarded a copy of a resolution passed at the last meeting of the executive:That it be a recommendation to the' Taranaki Agricultural Society to c include in their schedule for the next -show four classes for calves reared under club’s scheme, one class being for each breed.’ It was decided to include these four classes as suggested’. It was reported that thirty-one entries had been received o 'for the children’s poultry.raising -oquipetitions, to be conducted under the boys’ and girls’ agricultural club scheme. Competitors may obtain sittings of eggs from Mr. W. P. Okey, Currie Street, after first obtaining a broody hen. The Marton A. and P. Association notified that their show would be held on Wednesday. March 7, Regret was expressed at this date tieing chosen, as the Taranaki Society had some months ago notified all A. and P. Societies that they intended to, hold their autumn shows on the Wednesday and Thursday nearest March 5 in eAch. year. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Marton Society on the matter. “At the monthly meeting of the Mateu Ratepayers’-and Settlers’ Association, a motior was passed supporting you in your action asking, for stricter measures from the Government Stock Department in preventing the spread of the cattle-tick,” wrote the hon. secretary (Mr. A. F. Nfison“Many droves of cattle for Waitara And Smart Road works pass through this district every summer, coining from the infected area via Ohura. This exit should also be safeguarded, as well as the rail and Mokau exits.” It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the Director of Agriculture (Dr., Reakes), with the society’s endorsement., A vote of thanks was. accorded to the Maori'footballers who recently played a match on the showgrounds, for a donation of £“2. It was made a .recomjnendation to the incoming schedule committee to make arrangements to have a space reserved on the prize ticket for inserting the number of exhibits in tfie different classes. It was intimated t)iat this was the last meeting of the present committee, as the annual meeting would be held later in the month. The chairman expressed thanks to members of the committee for their assistance throughout the year.
