CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER. Bj Telegraph -Press Association. Gisborne, -Sept. 1. The sequel to the stabbing at Matawhero on August 19 was that George Robert Monkhouse, aged GS, was charged with having attempted the murder of William Campbell. Accused was arrested this morning at the hospital, where he has been under treatment for his own injury. A remand till September 5 was granted. ENGINE-DRIVER DISMISSED. Westport, Sept. 1. The committee decided, in the Ngakawau dispute, that the engine-driver was wrong, and the engineer was right in dismissing him. The committee suggests lo the directors extenuating circumstances in respect to the dispute, ii\ that the orders given by the foreman were not clear. The union meets this afternoon.
