The Soviet is sending a delegate to London to claim. £1,500,000 for the use of nine vessels of the Caspian mercantile fleet, which Britain chartered in 1918-19 with the object of controlling the Caspian. NEW MOTOR RECORD. London, August 29. S. Davis and L. Lechampion, driving a Wolseley motor car at Brooklands, covered 1922 miles and 1680 yards in two spells of twelve hours each, breaKing forty records. CHANNEL SWIM FAILURE. London, August 29. Tiraboschi, an Italian from South America, attempted to swim the Channel from Cape Grisnez, but abandoned the attempt two miles from St. Margaret’s Bay, after nineteen hours’ swimming, JAPANESE CRUISER SUNK. Tokio, August 30. It is reported that the Japanese cruiser Niitaka was sunk by a typhoon on August 26, off Kamchatka, and 300 of the crew drowned. (The Niitaka is a light cruiser of 3365 tons, built in 1905.)
