While Viscount Lascelles was watching horses being saddled for the Ebo.’ Handicap, Backwood, a three-year-old. kicked him lightly in the chest. Viscount Lascelles was not hurt. RACECOURSE FEUDS. Received Aug. 31, 5.5 p.m. London, August 30. As an outcome of racecourse feuds by organised gangs, seven men were charged at the Marylebone Court with shooting at two men, Sage and Gilbert, in Camdentown. The latter is also under remand for demanding money with menaces. NEW CURRENCY LAW. Received Sept. 1, 1.10 a.m. Capetown, August 31. A new Mozambique currency law forbids the importation of foreign notes and paper money. The only foreign money allowed to circulate is gold. Prohibited currency will be confiscated. Payments to the Government in Customs and taxes must be in gold or drafts on London or Johannesburg, while duties and taxes will be calculated on the gold basis. There are heavy penalties for contraventions.
