A new Mozambique currency law forbids the importation of foreign notes and paper money. The only foreign money allowed to circulate is gold. Prohibited currency will be confiscated. Payments to the Government in Customs and taxes must be in gold or drafts on London or Johannesburg, while duties and taxes will be calculated on the gold basis. There are heavy penalties for contraventions.
