The Rev. Oscar Blundell has gone to the mountain house for a short visit.
Mr. D. A. Prain, of the railway office, Inglewood, has been transferred to Wanganui, and has been succeeded by Mr. McFarlane, of the Wanganui office.
It is reported from Ongarue that Tahutopuni Waata, an old chieftainess of the highest rank of the Maniapoto tribe, aged 103 years, has died. The Maoris are assembling in large numbers to attend the tangi. The deceased is a descendant on the mother’s side from the well-known Ngati Rangatohi Taumorunui.—Press Association.
Mr. Arthur Ridge, of the Public Trust Office, New Plymouth, who is leaving on transfer at the end of the week, was tendered a farewell social last night by the Old Boys’ Football Club, civil servants, and friends. An enjoyable evening was spent, during which a presentation was made to Mr. Ridge, various speakers testifying to the esteem in which the guest was held. Mr. Ridge suitably responded.
