INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The exodus of dairy cattle from the Inglewood district and adjacent parts of : North Taranaki continues to prove the high opinion held of them in other parts jof the Dominion. Only a few weeks ago I the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative ! Association dispatched northwards from here some 3(10 heifers to meet the requirements of dairy farmers there, ana to-day the same firm forwarded thirteen j truck loads in the same direction. These | comprised three trucks of Jersey bulls, • two trucks of in-calf Friesian heifers, ; and 8 trucks of yearling pure and grade i Jersey heifers. This business of supply- ' ing the wants of the dairymen in north- ! ern localities seems now well establish- - ed, a fact that should be sufficient inducement to our farmers to go in for ■; the best stock they can get for breeding, ■ as well as paying close attention to the ; rearing of their young cattle.
The fifth games of the second round of the Inglewood crlbbage tournament wert 'laved on Monday night, and resulted as follows: Kaimiro 25 v. Fire Brigade 23; Druids 25 v. Bristol Road 23; Bowlers 29 v. Foresters 18; Kaimata 24 v Bacon Factory 18. These scores, it is stated, do not affect the relative positions of the competing clubs, and as there are only two more bouts to be played interest in the contest is growing. The next meeting is to be held on Friday next, the drawing for which
is: Fire Brigade v. Druids: Bristol Road v. Bowlers; Foresters v. Bacon Factory: and Kaimata v. Kaimiro.
The euchre party and dance in aid of the soldiers’ memorial fund, which is advertised to take place at the Inglewood Town Hall to-night, should be a oreat success, as its predecessors in the series of these functions have been. The 1 committee of enthusiasts who started and have engineered the series have deI termined to raise nt least £5O for the • verv worthy object named, and so far ' have paid in some £2O to the fund. Each l event goes on its own merits, that is to i say. if to-night’s venture should show a credit balance, as no doubt it will, .that balance will be paid into the fund, land if on a future occasion a bad night I be. struck with a deficit, the committee i moke up the deficiency out of their own I pockets, not recognising any claim on • previous favorable balances. When a | coterie of citizens take up any line with that sort of spirit, they decidedly deserve success such has so far attended their efforts, and it is to he hoped tha-.. a bumoer house will show the appreciation th£ public have for such action in a good cause.
