A rule nisi has been granted to the Employers’ Federation against the Clothing Trade Employees’ Union restraining the latter from striking by encouraging members not to accept work under the Federal arbitration award. The State Cabinet turned down a proposal for the amalgamation of the income-tax departments on the grounds that the State collects the tax more cheaply than the Commonwealth, also there is fundamental difference between both taxes. DELEGATES TO GENEVA. Melbourne, August 30. Mr. Hughes has announced that tne Commonwealth delegates to Geneva would consist of Sir Joseph Cook, Mr. Sheldon, Mr. Justice Rich, and Mrs. Dale, of New South Wales. The last named will represent Australia at thesessions concerned with questions affecting women and children.
THE SHEARERS’ DISPUTE. Received Aug. 30, 11.35 p.m. Sydney, August 30. Boots, who was charged with inciting shearers not to accept the award rates, was fined £lO, with £3O 10s costs. Counsel for the Graziers’ Association, pressing for a heavy penalty, said the strike had already cost the association £lOO,OOO. The shearers claim a victory in the dispute. They state requests for men to proceed to various sheds willing to pay the Queensland rates are daily coming to hand. MURDERER UNKNOWN. Received Aug. 31. 1.20 a.m. Sydney, Aug. 30. At the inquest concerning the death of Kemmis, the bank manager, the coroner returned a verdict of wilful murder against some person unknown.
