THE STRATFORD SEAT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —It is amusing to stand aside and watch the difference of opinion expresed over the selection of a candidate for the Stratford seat between "the Young Reformer” and Mr. McMillan, representing as he does the views of the old Tory type of political opinion. By the way, Mr. Editor, can you tell me if this is the same Mr. McMillan who is Mayor of Stratford? Is it the same gentleman who reduced the borough workman’s wages on his casting vote, the same person who on his casting vote forced the Saturday half-holiday on Stratford people, much to the dissatisfaction of our farmer friends, which was afterwards reversed by a vote of the people? You may be able to tell me also if it is the same Mr. McMillan as Mayor in conjunction with the council absolutely refused the Rev. Howard Elliott, P.P.A. organiser, the fight to speak in the municipal Town Hall. Ts it the same Mr. McMillan who was responsible for (having the picture company brought before a magistrate and fined for not getting a license to get up a benefit entertainment by which was raised a substantial sum for a blind man who had just previously lost his wife, and who, by the way, has passed away himself? Is Mr. McMillan chairman of Mr. Hine's committee ? Last, but by no means least, is he not the right type of gentleman to be the head of the Tory organisation. His reference to Mr. Hine being away at the front was too ludicrous. Was the reason of -that gentleman’s defeat for a seat on the directorate of the factory in his own district, upon which small farmers’ alone vote, because he was away at the front? I aim not a Reformer. Tt is true I was, but the question we have to decide is who has proved himself to be the better man for the Dominion and the district, Mr. Hine or Mr. Masters.—l am, etc., ONCE A REFORMER. Stratford, August 27.
