The North-Eastern Railway will shortly use to convey “ the flying Scotsman,” between York and Newcastle, the first high speed electric locomotive built in Britain, which will be absolutely safe, and will draw 450 tons at a maximum speed of ninety miles hourly, and average sixty miles over long distances. If successful the whole North-Eastern system will use electric in preference to steam locomotives. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
