OUTBREAK OF FIRE.
DAMAGE IN NEWSPAPER OFFICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch. August 25. Shortly before 8 o’clock this morning fire broke out in the top storey of the Lyttelton Times office in the stereo room of the jobbing department. What threatened to be a serious conflagration was confined to one storey by the prompt activities of the brigade/ The storey was completely gutted and the editorial rooms immediately below suffered severely from water. The origin of the fire is unknown. Work in the various departments, which was temporarily suspended, was resumed about 10 o’clock.
The damage by fire is estimated at £l5OO, but the damage by water is impossible to estimate. Insurances on the building and contents amount to £18,300 distributed amongst a number of officea.
