JOURNALISTS’ AWARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, August 24. The journalists’ award has been tiled. It provides for a 48-hour week. The 12hour stretch is retained for morning newspapers, and the 8-hour day for evening newspapers. General reporters, readers and sub-editors receive increases jd salary. The grading system for subeditors is retained. There are slight alteration* in the holiday clauses. The award will continue in force till June 30, 1924. A YOUNG BURGLAR. Christchurch, August 24. Ivan Major Illing, aged 19, appeared in the Magistrate s Court charged with burglary. The police stated that accused admitted 54 cases of breaking and entering, but in order to save time and expense only 15 charges will be preferred against him. Accused’s statement showed that h>s first operation was on Christ’ mas Day, 1921, and his career came to a close on August 5, 1922, when he was Surprised in a house and compelled hurriedly to retreat, leaving a bicycle behind. It was through this bicycle that his arrest came about. The total value of the goods and money stolen in these 15 cases was £229. Accused was not represented by counsel. He pleaded guilty anfl was committed for sentence. A REPORT CORRECTED. Wellington. Last Night. In the report of the slander action, Page v. Stables, on Monday, the word “not” was accidentally left in. making it appear that the Judge said he could not understand why plaintiff was not called. Page was actually put into the box and proffered for cross-examination, but the Judge ruled that the line of examination sought to be established was inadmissable. ’
