WAR MEMORIAL SITE.
QUESTION OF VALUATION. A deputation from the New Plymouth War Memorial Committee waited on the Harbor Board® yes terday with regard to the’proposed exchange of land for the i vacant section opposite the railway station as a site for a war memorial. The deputation consisted of Messrs. W. H. Skinner, C. H. Weston. J. R. Hill and W. J. Chaney. Mr. Skinner said there was a deadlock between the Borough Council and the Harbor Board over the matter of the valuation of the lands proposed to be exchanged. Time Avas going on and. it was getting more and more difficult to find a memorial site. The deputation wished to suggest that each of the bodies concerned in the exchange appoint a valuer, the Government to appoint an independent umpire to arbitrate if the two valuers disagreed. After considering the matter the board decided to inform the deputation that it would adhere to its previous decision that each party should appoint a valuer, the two valuers to select their own arbitrator.
