QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT.

BY TARANAKI MEMBERS. Notice has been given in Parliament of the following questions: Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki) to ask the Minister of Finance, whether it is a fact that the Government, in view of the present financial stringency and in accordance with its econbmy proposals, intends to introduce legislation this session which will provide that the allowance to be granted to any person retiring from the Public Service on superannuation shall not exceed £3OO per annum ? Mr. Smith to ask the Minister of Finance, whether he will amend the law in the direction of making provision for the remission or refund of stamp duty to the soldier remaining on the landj &c., in cases where a dissolution of partnership has taken place between soldiers who have held land, etc., under that operations of the discharged Soldiers Settlement Act? (Note. —Almost invariably it has been to the interest of all comM-ned that such partnerships should have been dissolved and it is a clear case of hardship to impose on the soldier payment of stamp duty on what is' in effect the same transaction.) Mr. Masters (Stratford) to ask the Minister of Education, whether, in view of the fact that in some cases district high schools are being disestablished and technical high schools established in their stead, and as it appears to be a part of the Government’s policy to- establish technical high schools, he will extend the Department’s regulations to cover children attending these schools by making' an allowance for board to the same extent as those attending district high schools, and who, through impractiability of conveyance, have to live away from home in order to attend, provided that the regularity of the child’s attendance is not less than 85 per cent.? (Note. —Children at present attending district high schools under the above regulations have an allowance made to them for board, but upon the school being disestablished and a technical school established in its stead lose their allowance.)
