NEWTON KING, LTD., REPORT. At Dounlas on August 14 a small offering all sold at late market rates. Mixed age ewes 16s !)d. hoggets 15s 6d to 16s 3d, yearling Jersey heifers £5 10s, in-calf heifers £4 5s to £5, heifers calved £7 10s. springing cows £9 7s 6d, backward sorts £4 5s to £5 10s. At Stony River on the 15th inst., we had a good yarding of all classes and report a keenly contested sale throughout. The market showed a strengthening tendency in both store and dairy pens. Store pigs 375, aged geldings £l6 to £lB, yearling heifers 26s to 38s 6d, Jersey heifers £5 Ss 6d, empty heifers £2 16s to £3 12s Gd. store cows 20s to 235, forward cows £2 15s, fat cows £4 12s Gd to £6, springing heifers £9 to £l2, springing cows £5 10s to £7 10s, better classes £8 to £lO 10s, extra choice classes £ 12 10s to £l7. On August 16 we conducted a clearing sale on account of Mr. Gordon Salway, Pukearuhe, and report a complete clearance at satisfactory prices. The herd of 40 cows sold for the most part at prices ranging from £7 to £lO, pedigree Jersey bull realised 36 guineas, empty heifers £4, five-year-old gelding £26, six-year-old miare £2B. At Waiwakaiho on the 17th inst., a full yarding attracted a steady demand, and a good sale resulted, especially so in the store pens. There was fair enquiry for dairy cattle, if anything an improvement on the previous sale. Store cows 15s to 30s, fat cows £4 12s 6d to £5 16s, yearling heifers £2 Is to £2 Ss, Jersey heifers £4 6s to £4 19s, three-year-old steers £2 2s 6d, springing heifers £5 to £5 ss, springing cows £5 to £6 15s. quality cows £0 10s to £l2 10s. On the same day at a clearance sale on account of Mr. J. Dombroski, Midhirst, implements and sundries made good values. The cows, considering they were showing a good deal of age, sold well, the best making £lO to £l2 10s, yearling heifers £3 13s.
