ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY.

CLEVER RUSE SUCCEEDS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 23, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, August 22. Mark Goldschmidt, a former member of the Hungarian Cabinet, who is awaiting trial on a charge of forgery, escaped from prison by a clever ruse. He feigned toothache, and was taken to the dental institute. On the way he invited his escort of three gaolers to his lodgings, where a sumptuous banquet, with wines and liqueurs, prepared by his pretty fiancee, awaited them. While the gaolers feasted Goldschmidt obtained permission to go upstairs and wash his hands, and he never reappeared. The gaolers arrested his fiancee and her maid on a charge of complicity?*— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. *
