A London message reports the death of Sir Thomas Brock, the sculptor. Among the numerous other works he designed the Queen Victoria Memorial, Buckingham Palace. Mr. H. T. Parata announces that he has decided not to contest the southern Maori seat at the general election, but he will support the candidature of Muriwai Mutu (Mrs. Morrison), who stands i.s an Independent. The death occurred on Sunday night at Wellington of Mrs. Mary Marchbanks, at the age of 100 years. Deceased was the relict of the late Mr. David Marchbanks, of Dunedin, and mother of Mr. J. W. Marchbanks, engineer to the Wellington Harbor Board. The death of Mrs. Caroline Oriental Hoskin, relict of the late William Fry Hoskin, removes another of the pioneers of this settlement. Mrs. Hoskin was a, Miss Street and as an infant arrived, with her parents on board the barque Oriental on November 18, 1641, having been born at sea on August 3 in the South Atlantic. Both the Street family and the Hoskin family have been very closely identified, with the settlement of North Taranaki, especially the Bell Block district, from its earliest foundation. The late Mrs. Hoskin
leaves eight sons and three daughters, viz., William Henry (Mangatoki), John (Uruti), Arthur (Fitzroy), Richard (Hunter ville), Leonard (Auckland), Frederick (Okato), Alfred (Inglewood), Harold (New Plymouth), Mrs. H. Potej Mrs. J. Hamblyn and Mrs. Hall (all of Fitzroy). She also leaves 55 children and 5 great-grandchildren. ThW funeral takes place at Bell Block this afternoon, the cortege leaving the residence of Mr. Pote, Fitzroy, at 1.30.
