BOROUGH AFFAIRS.

NEW PLYMOUTH COUNCIL. At Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council the following further business was transacted: The borough manager reported: A large number of trees (pious insignia and gums) have been planted at the old waterworks reserve, and the council is considering the Question of further planting there. It was always intended to plant the whole of the hillsides of the storage basin in the hydroelectric lands with trees suitable at maturity of providing electric light poles, and I would recommend' that a report be obtained as to the best class of trees to be planted for this purpose and that the nurseries be re-stocked with a view to planting out next season. “There are many streets in the borough in which, no name plates have been erected, and in others the name plates require re-painting, etc,” remarked the New Plymouth borough manager in his monthly report. “A good deal of inconvenience is no doubt caused by these defects, particularly to visitors. I would recommend that in more thickly populated streets, at least, the matter be remedied.”
