The potato market is about the same, but Auckland advices are that oversupply there is effecting a weakening tendency. Between July 23 and August 19 37,800 sacks arrived, practically a six* weeks’ supply. Even allowing for a fair proportion of seed, there is a sufficiency until well on in September. Values to farmers at country stations are from £4 2s 6d to £4 ss, Dakotas being in slightly better request on account of their keeping qualities, but farmers are not offering many. Oats are, if anything, weaker, due to Southland quotations at 2s 7d f.o.b. s.i. for B”s, actually breaking 2s at country stations. The equivalent fqr Canterbury B’s is 2s Id or 2s 2d.

The cowgrass market is unsettled, on account of reported quotations of American seed to England at a substantial drop on recent rates. The American article is undressed, but a cabled quotation to London is reported to be at such a. price that it would apparently close the door to New Zealand exportation, although, up to a few days ago. good London offer?, were still available in the Dominion
