WAGE REDUCTIONS.
BIG CUT IN BRITAIN. WORKERS MAY RETALIATE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 18, 5.5 p.m. London, August 17. Mr. J. R. Clynes, in his presidential address at the annual conference of the General Workers’ Federation at Leamington, forecasted that inconsiderate use by employers of their power in enforcing wage reductions would rouse a desire for retaliation. The wage increase was gradual during the war, but sudden reductions in the case of six million workers now amounted to about £10,000,000 weekly. The conference passed a resolution calling on the Government to restrain employers from unfairly depressing wages.—Aus.-N.'Z. Cable Assn.
