FRAUD BY OFFICIAL.

LONG LIST OF CHARGES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. William Leonard Butler appeared afr the Magistrate’s Court to-day on 12 informations involving 29 charges of fraudulently omitting to account for monies paid him in his capacity as deputy-official assignee. To the first charge, involving a sum of £8 17s 3d, accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The remainder of the charges were taken collectively, the amount involved being £l5B 0s 6d. The Government auditor stated in evidence that accused took his position 14 months ago. Witness took possession of the books in August last, and found they had not been written up since accused took over. Accused pleaded guilty to all charges, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
