DAILY NEWS AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office of our local representatative, Mr. W. H. Humphrey, Broadway, Stratford. Orders for papers may also be left with him. GENERAL ITEMS. August 17. The’ death occurred this morning of Mr. John Butler, a resident of Toko for over 30 years. He was 69 years of age, and was a native of Ireland. He is survived by a widow and family of four—Misses Nora and Nelly and Messrs. John and James Butler, all of Toko. Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director-General of Agriculture, paid a visit to the Stratford Model Farm this morning, on his way through to New Plymouth. He expressed himself as very well pleased with the progress that* had been made at the farm since his previous visit. Many matters of interest in connection with the model farm will be discussed at the annual meeting of the society on Saturday. In a cribbage match, last night, the Druids defeated the 1.0.0. F., N.Z., by 57 games to 38. The scores were (1.0.Q.F. players being mentioned first) : Gatton and Dodd 6 v. Hydman and Darragh 6; R. Thomas and M. Aagaard 4 v. Jones and Le Rois 7; Klee and James 8 v. Reader and Maine 5; Gibson and Short 1 v. Nelson and Rowe 9; Sharrock and Voyle 5 v. Ferguson and Boldt 6; Healey and W-11s 6 v. Haylock and Green 9; George and Grant 2 v. Leitch and Wells 10; A. A. Cameron 6 v. E. Mumby 5.
