LOCAL MARKET PRICES. The local -market prices last week were as

HIDES AND SKINS. GOOD TONE OF MARKET. Messrs. Nolan and Co. held their usual four-weekly sale of hides and skins at their store, Gill Street, on Tuesday. Competition was keen, and prices realised, were satisfacI tory. Light hides showed an advance of Id : per lb., medium l%d to l%d, whilst heavies were in more demand than has been the case for the past three months, and advanced about one penny per pound. Sheepskins continue to improve, and dry skins, medium to coarse wools in good order, made up to 6d per lb., While best lines of abattoirs’ salteds made from 4s Id to 4s sd. Calfskins showed an upward tendency, and it is thought will continue to Improve. All sound good skins made from 15d upwards, a portion working out at from 7s to 7s fid each. A number of oppossum skins wore offered, and these met with comparatively poor competition owing principally to the fact that the bulk were not got up jn the manner required by the trade. Top price was realised by a nice line of blacks, which made 6s 4d each. Tallow in casks realised 26s per cwt., tins 19s 6d per cwt.
