DRINKS AT A CLUB.
CHARGES AGAINST MEMBERS, j ■ I By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, August 16. It is many years since Lytteltofi Courthouse was so crowded as tbil morning, when charges were heard before Mr. H. Y. Widdowson. S.M., against members of the Lyttelton Club. Hie charges arose out of a police raid on the club on duly 21, when it was alleged ths/ i quantity of liquor was exposed for ale without a license. / The first, case was heard agahuEH Thomas Gellety for selling liquor without being licensed to do so. The police evidence was to the effect that in consequence of certain information two constables visited the club with a member of the club and had several drinks, which were paid for with coupons purchased from Gallety, who was acting M barman. Defendant said that during the past ten years members could buy Ihpiox with coupons. The club purchased th< liquor, which was not sold for gain. The amount paid for liquor, sweets, soft drinks, etc., was over £BOO yearly. Th? Magistrate reserved his decisitfl and the other eases were adjourned till the 20th inst.
