HANDLING GOODS.
DELAYS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. DEFINITE INSTANCES WANTED. Complaints of delay in the handUngr and forwarding of goods at New Plymouth were recently made to the New Plymouth Harbor Board by the Hawera Chamber of Commerce. It wa» pointed out at the time that the board was not responsible for any delay as the handling of goods from the port was entirely in the hands of the railway department. At the monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board yesterday the chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) reported that the matter had been referred to the district traffic manager, who had asked that specific instances of delay should be pointed out as the Hawera complaints were framed in general terms. If he knew where the delay occurred he would make investigations. A complaint had been made that part shipments were forwarded railway department and not kept till the whole shipment was available. This, the speaker thought, was a reasonable way to deal with goods as the railway could not be expected to store goods till the whole shipment was ready. The speaker said he could not see how the railway department could do more than they Were doing. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson thought he could get specific details of delay in goods which needed remedying.
