WAITARA.
HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbor Board was held on Friday last. Mr. Jas. Hine (chairman) presided. A lease of a section held by A. G. Ayton was transferred to J. Northcott, subject to the rent being paid. The action of the works committee in passing the plans of outbuildings at the Club Hotel was confirmed. The secretary reported that he had inspected the river where the Maoris had put in eel weirs and he could not see tl’at these weirs were dangerous to the river banks. In the normal state of the river the water was thrown on to the karaka flat and in flood, time the weirs would be washed away. The chairman stated he had obtained legal advice on the question, the board’s solicitor stating that the legal question was a rather deep one. No action was taken. The new concrete boat shed was reported to be nearly finished. Mr. H. McKenzie was appointed in conjunction with the secretary to make an inspection of the board's lease in respect to noxious weeds. GENERAL. The settlers between Waitara and Awakino will be pleased to know that the Postal Department are reverting back to the daily service as from Monday next. The credit for this reversion is due to the Waitara Chamber of Commerce, and the help given by the postmaster. The Broadway Soldiers’ Memorial scheme is nearing completion. The road filling is now completed anti enclosures are now being made for the avenue of trees, which will be planted shortly.
