BOROUGH BY-ELECTION.
POLL TAKES PLACE TO DAY. To-day a poll of the electors of the borough of New Plymouth will be taken to elect a councillor to fill the vacancy caused on the Borough Council by the resignation, of Councillor W. Rumball. Three candidates have been nominated, viz., Messrs. G. W. Browne, F. J. Hill and R. J. Clarke. The first two gentlemen are from Vogeltown and Westown respectively, and have made the tram extension question tc their respective suburbs a. strong plank in their platforms, while Mr Clarke has been nominated by the Labor Party. Polling will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 -p.m., and eleven polling piece# have been provided, the principal being the Whiteley Sunday School, Liardet Street. Electore are advised to record their votes early in the day te «&ve 4 rush during the evening hours. As soon as the returns come in the result will be declared by the returning office* (Mr R. Day) from the principal booth.
