SCHOOL MATINEE TO-DAY. The management of Everybody’s jhave arranged a special school matinee screening of the glad picture ‘Tollyanna” for 3 p.m. this afternoon. One superintendent of American schools expressed himself about “Pollyanna” as follows: “Everyone should learn the glad game from Tollyanna’; in fact, it should be taught in the schools, for it surely will make for better citizenship.” It certainly is the class of picture that must have a good effect on all /chib dren who see it, and both teachers end parents Should encourage the kiddies’to see “Pollyanna” and learn the “glad” game. “Pollyanna” will also show again this evening at-7.45 and this will be the final- screening iii New Plymouth. To-morrOw night “Pollyanha” will be shown at the Theatre Royal, Waitara. THE PEOPLE’S. LAST NIGHT OF “THE SON OF WALLINGFORD.”. A striking tribute to the silent drama is “The Son of Wallingford,” the Vitagraph special attraction at the People’s to-night. It is a brilliant story 3 by the author of previous Wallingford features. The stoty (Carries rich appeal through its expenditure of money which has been used to bring- out the realistic touches. An inland lake of fire from blazing crude oil forma one of the big scenes. The cast has been selected for its appropriateness. Wilfrid North is a perfect type as J. Rufus, while the remainder ? df the cast is entirely acceptable. The prices are: Dress circle 1/6, stalls 1/-. Gladys Walton, seen in previous Universal flapper comedy successes, tr Pink Tights,” “The Man Tamer” and “Short Skirts,” is featured in the Universal production, “Playing .With Fire” on tomorrow’s change of programme. Miss jValton is seen as a fiery little tramp in a New York jazz palace. THE PRINCESS OF POPPYLAND. promises to be one of the daintiest and brightest shows that have been .staged here for some time will be shown at the Empire Theatre next Tuesday .qnd Wednesday by pupils of the New Plymouth Technical College. Proctor’s Princess of Poppyland is an operetta in 3 acts and contains many gems of bright choruses, solos, dancing and dialogue. Act 1. —Opens with a garden scene in the peaceful Kingdom of Poppyland, to which kingdom representatives of all nations have been invited to celebrate the debut of the King’s daughter, the Princess of Poppyland. Act 2 (the courtyard of the castle) shows the arrival of the Baron Insomnia, who designs to steal the magic casket “Beauty Sleep,” on which depend the fortunes of Poppyland. Act 3 (the reception hall of the castle) shows the frustration of the Baron’s designs by a Prince visiting the country disguised as a student. The final scene sfcows a happy ending to the troubles of the people. A feature of the evening will be the dainty costums of dancers and actors, which, combined with bright music of orchestra and chorus, and clever dialogue should make the whole a very pleasing entertainment.
