POLICE COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH CASES. A sitting of the New Plymouth Police Court was held yesterday morning, over which Mr. H. R. Cattley, J.P., presided. Anthony Kelly was charged with being implicated in the theft from the person of William Cheffings of money and effects to the total value of £99 Ils, at New Plymouth on Friday. On the application of the police, a remand was granted until to-day, when accused will be brought up with a man named William Wilson, who is similarly charged in connection with the same offence. It is understood another remand will be asked for to-day. Joseph Sturmey, who was arrested for drunkenness in Gill Street at an. early hour on Sunday morning and was subsequently bailed out, did not appear. He -was convicted and fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay 7s 6d, on account of expenses incurred in connection with his arrest. A man named Thomas Roberts was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, without visible lawful means of support. Constable Butler explained that he had received a call at about 8.30 this morning and found the accused in Devon Street, showing all the signs of having been out all night. He had no mdney and was wet to the skin. He was taken to the police station and. charged as stated. Constable Parkinson stated he had known the accused for some twelve or eighteen months. He associated with some Natives at Smart Road, who apparently looked after him and fed him, but he could not be said to do any work to support himself. After, consultation with Senior-Sergeant McCrorie, the Bench convicted accused and ordered him to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. He was also told he must leave the town at once and endeavor to get some work do.
