Emergencies: Troy, M‘Rae, Gibson, Thomas. THE HIGH SCHOOL FIFTEEN. The New Plymouth Boys’ High School first fifteen are now training hard in readiness for the match against Nelson Boys’ College at New Plymouth next week. A keen contest is anticipated, and, judging by the clever display High School gave on Saturday against Clifton, a much heavier team, they will acquit themselves with credit in the inter-col-legiate match. Although they played without some of their' regular forwards, the School vanguard put up a plucky fight. In the first spell it looked as if the heavy Clifton" forwards would wear them down, but in the second spell the School forwards played with splendid dash, a good dribbling rush, in which Patterson and Brewster were prominent, ending in the latter scoring. The School backs can always be relied on to give an attractive display. Infusing dash, accuracy and variety into their play. They combined well on Saturday even though, like the forwards, they were playing against a heavier and older set of backs.

Soon after the game started, Shaw, who plays a fine game at five-eighths, opened the score with a potted goal, a really smart piece of work which surprised everyone. The second spell scintillated with bright flashes of play among the backs, in which both teams took part, but unquestionably the most brilliant was a try by Brown. The ball came via Alexander and Shaw to Brown when School was in a good attacking position, and he cleverly feinted, cut in, and sidled through two astonished Clifton backs, to score near the posts. Neither of the tries was converted, but Brown later added to the score with a penalty kick. Clifton’s only score came towards the end of the first spell. School were hard put to keep the Clifton forwards out, and, after repeated assaults- on the school line, Telfar dived across with the ball, Jones converting. It. was a fine game, and school deserved the congratulations it received. It has now to play' Okalawa for the championship of the province. It is likely the match will take place in Hawera. Tlie Star team for Saturday is as follows: Dunford, Julian, Patterson, Falwasser, Cliff, Dean, Bishop, Arden, Hill, Clarke, O’Connell, Hogan, O’Connor, Pearce, Yates. Emergencies: Sims, Bridger, Copestake.
