ANOTHER AMENDMENT SUBMITTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, August 11. Amendments to the Tariff Bill result* in a compromise. An amendment has been submitted in the Senate providing that, in equalising differences in industrial conditions abroad and in the United States in order to fix the duty, the President shall base his decision on the cost of production, instead of the conditions of competition. Received 13, 11.5 p.m. Washington, Aug. 12. The Senate adopted the flexibility amendment to the Tariff Bill by a vote of 36 to 20.
