DAILY NEWS AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Dally News should be left at the office of our local representatative, Mr. W. H. Humphrey, Broadway, Stratford. Orders for papers may also be left with him. SOLDIERS’ RE-UNION. VETERANS TWO WARS, August 11. A re-union of the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the South African Veterans’ Association was held in the Town Hall last night, Dr. W. P. P. Gordon presiding over a large gathering. Advantage was taken of the occasion to entertain the visiting Manawatu football team.

In opening the function, Dr. Gordon extended a welcome to the vsiting footballers, and the memory of fallen comrades was then reverently honored. The toast of “The King” having been drunk, “The Army and Navy and Air Force” was proposed by Mr. J. W. McMillan (president of the Stratford branch of the South African Veterans’ Association). He said it was to these cervices that Britain owed her greatness. Our soldiers joined these forces as raw recruits and came through the baptism of fire with a name second to none in the history of the world. Mr. J. B. Hine, responding, said if New Zealanders lived up to the traditions of the British Army they would not go. far wrong.

“The Veterans” was proposed by Mr. W. Power, who said that everyone had the greatest admiration for the veterans, who took up the cudgels in defence of the Empire in days gone by. Mr. T. Richardson responded. £ “The Territorials” was proposed by Mr. B. H. Horner. He said* this branch of the service had a great deal to do with the efficiency of the army. One of the finest representatives turned out by the territorials was the late Colonel Malone. Mr. Murray responded. “Patriotic ’Societies” was proposed by Mr. Murray Urquhart, who said the societies were one of the factors which helped to win the war. He would take a wider view of patriotism, and include the mothers, wives and sweethearts of the soldiers, who did so much for the boys at the front. Mr. E. H. Young, acting chairman of the Taranaki War Relief Association, responded. In proposing the toast of “Kindred Bodies.” Dr. W. P. P. Gordon especially mentioned the Rugby Union. Mr. Carruthers (manager of the Manawatu touring Rugby team), and Mr. R. F. Harkness responded. The toasts of “The Ladies” and “The Press” were also honored. During the evening songs, instrumental and other items were given by Messrs. P. Aitken, G. T. Walters, P. Coe, D. McKearney, Stevenson, A. G. D. Lowry; G. E. Jago, and A. Kelly. Messrs. VV. Robinson and B. H. Horner played the accompaniments. STRATFORD R.S.A. ALTERATION OF RULES. At the annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the R.S.A. a committee was set up to consider alterations of the existing rules. At a meeting of the association last night the following recommendations were approved: (1) Additions to objects, provision for making grants on loans to soldiers out of the association's funds; the annual subscription to be reduced from 10s 6d to ss; (3) the committee to consist, of ten members instead of fourteen; (4) the quorum for a general meeting to be reduced to ten. and the quorum for an ordinary meeting by requisition of members to be twenty; (5) in the event of the winding *up of the association the rule previously provided for the funds to go to an institution with similar objects. This rule was altered to provide that the funds should go to any public hospital or other institution in the borough or county of Stratford. BILLIARDS AND SNOOKER. Tn a shield billiards * and snooker match at the Egmont Chib last night between the South Taranaki and the New Plymouth Chibs, each team gained two wins ‘in both billiards and snooker. THE KING’S THEATRE. “DON’T TELL EVERYTHING.” A crisp, clean comedy-drama is z the big Paramount super-feature, “Don’t Tell Everything.” which will commence its screening at the King’s Theatre tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. It is a laugh with a moral, and the triple sjtar combination. Wallace Reid. Gloria Swansou and Elliot Dexter, fulfil its possibility. The settings arc beautiful, and the photography of the polo match in the early scenes is an artistic triumph.
