SOUTHERN MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The holiday has interrupted the ordinary flow of business this week, but attention continues to centre around the potato position. At Fairlie district country stations business has been done in several cases at from £4 to £4 2s 6d, nearer at hand £4 ss, and in several cases £4 10s. The f.o.b. South Island price is about £5 ss. A cheap freight boat is about to leave port. The fact that the holiday has interfered with consignments going forward may assist to steady up the market. Otago is reported to be short of supplies, with consignments going from South Canterbury. Merchants are not inclined to exceed offers of £4 5s at medium country stations. A moderate volume of business has been done in ryegrass and cowgrass. Cocksfoot is dull, and there is no improvement in the oat and chaff markets. LONDON MARKETS. Parcels are in poor demand and declined 3d to fid. Fair trade is coming in spot Australian ex ship at 56s ’dd. Flour is quiet; Australian ex store 38s to 38s 6d. Barley is quiet; Australian Chevalier 47s to 555. Oats are quiet and occasionally cheaper. Beans and peas are firm. Sugar, granulated 53s 3d. LONDON MEAT MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 9th instant: N.Z. Frozen Meat.—Larnb 10|d per lb. Mutton unchanged (last quotation 26/7/’22 —wether and maiden ewe, light, 6§d per lb, heavy s®d per lb; ewe, light 4|d per lb, heavy 4jd per lb). Beef.—Unchanged (last quotation 5/7/’22—ox hinds 4|d per lb. fores 2|d; cow hinds 3&<l per lb, fores 2id); market quiet.
