RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The girls’ friendly society held their first entertainment, a social and dance, on Tuesday night, and it proved a very enjoyable affair. Rev. Coleman, sang and Messrs. Battler and Wilcox gave a duet. These gentlemen, who made their first appearance on the Rahotu stage, were very much enjoyed. Miss Rowlands, who is always liked, also favored the audience with a very pretty song. About, seven young ladies of the society sang “The Bells of St. Mary’s’’ as a “community” and were recalled two or three times. Mrs. Buttler played the accompaniments, and Messrs. Park r and Norris the dance music, assisted by Mesdames Buttlei’, Lowery, Messrs. Grey and Barrett. In the afternoon the place presented a spectacle, there being over 300 Maori ladies and gentlnmen to see the two football matches which were played on the recreation ground, while a grand ball was given at night by the local Maoris for the visitors’ pleasure. The hall was packed. Everything passed off very quietly and reflected credit upon those in charge. Several car loads of local residents attended the funeral of the late Mr. McGregor, which took place at New Plymouth. He will be very much missed from his little shop where many were wont to shop and have a chat with him. The late Mr. McGregor took charge of the library. The family have the sincere sympathy of all in their trouble.
