The new racing year was opened to-day, when the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club commenced its August meeting. The day was bright and su’nny, but a light breeze blowing had an edge to it. There was a very large attendance, and the track, considering the heavy' frosts of late, was in fine order. The totalisator investments were ,£47,751, compared with £38,721 10s for theWopening day last year. Results : 1 INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP.—Rose Peters (P. Holmes junr.) 1, Handsome Jack 2, Dundenong 3. Received Aug. 6, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, August 6. The weather was fine and the track in perfect order for the V.R.C. uneeting. The Australian Hurdles resulted: Pistolier (Frawley) 10.2 1, Fiscom (Boyd) 12.7 2, Roisel (Reid) 11.2 3. All the acceptors started. 7iscom led round the home turn for the last, time from Roisel, with Pistolier four lengths further back. Entering the straight Pistolier put in a great run and gradually drew out and won by two lengths. .Tackstaff was fourth and Mazax last. Time, 6min. 32%sec.
