SPLENDID DAIRY RETURNS. MR. J. C. O’HpRKE’S FRIESIANS. The possibilities of the Oaonui district for dairying are emphasised by the returns of Mr. J. C. O’Rorke’s Friesians, computed from the official tests made by Government testers for the season up to May 31 last. Every cow in the herd of 72 has been put under the test, the average production for the entire herd being 338.941bs butter-fat, with an average test of 3.98. For the season 13 cows made over 4001'bs; 18 made between 350 and 4001bs; another 18 made from 300 to 3501b5; the remaining 23 cows making from 200 to SOOlbs. These last 23 cows came into profit from October to December. The highest return from one cow for the season was 441.26 lbs in 275 days. The sire to head this herd for the coming season is the champion Friesian, King of the Black and Whites, whose dam. Manor Beets Daughter Second of Asliylin, is the New Zealand champion three-year-old cow with Bp3lbs butter-fat, and his sire’s dam, Domino Third, has a Government farm record of 7871bs. —Times. PRICE OF PHOSPHATE. A QUESTION TN THE HOUSE. The Minister of Agriculture stated in the House of Representatives the other day that the latest quotation for Nauru superphosphate (36 to 38 per cent.), of which he had advice was £5 14a 6d per ton for cash down. This was an Auckland price charged practically at the point of manufacture. The Auckland price for ground Nauru phosphate (85 per cent, approximately), was at the •?ame time £5 17s 6d per ton for cash down. The c.i.f. price- at Auckland or at two southern ports was reduced from £3 10a fid to £2 18s fid as from the beginning of this month, but no cargoes at this last price had yet come in.
