THE WOOL MARKET. SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Right. At a supplementary wool sale to-day, approximately 1150 bales were offered. The offering consisted principally of fellmongering lots, any fleece wools being end of season or stragglers’ clips. The bulk were half-bred cTutchlngs and pieces, with occasional lots of merino, Corriedale and crossbred. The fleece wool offered comprised very small bale lots, but it unet with very free competition from local mills and a small circle of outside buyers. Pieces, erutthings, bellies and locks all met .with an active sale, and only occasional lots were passed.
Considering the class of the catalogue, prices showed a substantial improvement on the rates ruling at the fast sale,- and passings were very few. Tile best prices were: Merino 16d, merino half-bred 16d, Corriedale 14 %d, three-quarter-bred B%d, lamb 81£d, fine Romney 7%d, crossbred R%d, pieces 7y a d, crutchings lG%d (Corriedale), 9%d (merino), (half-bred), 5d (crossbred), bellies 9d. CANTERBURY MARKETS. Christchurch, Last Night. In the Canterbury markets there was very little business during the week. Potatoes.—The market became easier, and faruners are quitting their stocks from £4 to £4 ss. Seeds.—All seeds are maintaining their prices, and a steady trade is being done on this basis. Wheat. —Since permission has been given to export under-grade wheat, there has been an improvement in the business done, but it is only sentimental, and no appreciable rise in price has been noted. Oats and chaff are generally reported to be as ,dead as they can be. Linseed.—A fair amount is being exported to Australia at £l4 10s. This is practically the only line that is being exported there. LONDON MARKETS. LATEST MEAT PRICES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 2nd instant: — Tallow.—We qaote present spot values for the following descriptions of tallow: Fine mutton, 41s 6d per cwt.; good beef, 40s 3d per cwt.; mixed, 36s 3d per cwt. Market New Zealand Frozen-Meat. —Lamb lid per lb. Mutton unchanged. (Last quotation July 26) : Wether and maiden ewe, light 6 3-Sd i>er lb., heavy 5 3-Sd per lb.; ewe. light 4%d per lb., heavy 4%d per lb. Beef unchanged.
