THE ITALIAN STRIKE.
A CRITICAL SITUATION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rome, August 2. Despite the failure of the strike the situation is criticftL The ultimatum of the Fascisti expires at midnight, and all the Fascist! -deputies have returned to their constituencies for the purpose of demanding reprisals unless the strike is called off. If the Government fails to accede to the demands for dealing with the strikers the Fascisti intend to take matters into their own hands. Some threaten to burn the trade union headquarters and occupy the Chamber of Deputies. The various Ministries and the Chambers are at present guarded by troops with machine gtffte, while cavalry and infantry are encamped near the Coliseum. Meanwhile the Fascisti are running the public conveyances and there are quaint scenes in the streets. Elegaat Facsisti youths, dressed in the height of fashion, are driving motor-buses, while at Milan colonelg, professors, barristers and students are driving tramcars. No fares are charged.
