CONTROL OF MEAT.
THE COMPULSORY PROVISION. QUESTION FOR THE BOARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. Mr. Massey informed Mr. T. M. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) in the House to-day that the question of making the meat pool compulsory was one for the Meat Control Board rather than for the Government, which could not in-
terfere until the board made recommendations. He did not think further power was necessary. The board could apply the compulsory principle whenever it thought desirable. The Meat Board was not a Government body, although the Government was interested, and without representation from the board it was not competent for the Government to alter the law so as to make compulsion mandatory.
