AUCKLAND - WELLINGTON By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Telegraph Department announces that from to-morrow telephone facilities will be available between Auckland and Wellington continuously. This means that instead of communication being available only between 10 p.m. and 8 aan. it will be possible to speak at any time during the day or night. THE BAKERS’ AWARD. Wellington. August 3. The bakers’ and pastrycooks’ employers submitted an amended demand to the Arbitration Court to-day. The desire was expressed for an award to be made a Dominion award. The case was adjourned to allow 'both parties to confer. The employers ask that the starting hour be 10 p.m. instead of 10 a.m., with an earlier starring hour for holidays, and the payment of Is a day extra if work is. started before 2 a-m. The employers propose that foreman bakers receive £4 13s and journeymen £4 3s. JUDGMENT AGAINST RACING CLUB. Wellington, August 3. Tn • the Magistrate’s Cteurt to-day judgment was given against the Wellington Racing Club for £3O, with costs £9 13s, in a case in whieh a woman claimed £45 for the loss of a fur stole, deposited with the attendant in the ladies’ cloak room during the recent race meeting. The stole had been wrapped in a bundle of coats, but wimn the bundle was opened later it was missing. The Magistrate held that want of care was shown by the attendant and that the club was liable for the loss.

WANGANUI WOOLLEN MILLS. Wanganui. Last Night. The directors of the Wanganui Woollen Mills, Ltd., have decided to go ahead with the erection of woollen mills in Wanganui. A highly qualified Scottish expert has been appointed general manager and leaves for New Zealand by the Corinthic next week. An excellent site for the industry was secured some time ago and on the manager’s arrival the work of planning and erecting the buildings will be at once proceeded with. The prospects of the company are regarded by the directors as very bright.
