CARNIVAL WEEK.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENING. PADDY’S MARKET TO-DAY, The various committees of the Pierrots seem to ba vieing with each other in arranging good shows during this week, and a visit to the euchre party end dance last night revealed the energy that Mr. R. Bennoeh, assisted by Mr. A. Roberts and his committee, had put into their part of the programme. About 300 people were seated at long tables playing euchre, while in another part of the hall a number of couples were dancing to the music of Miss George’s jazz orchestra. Playing cards were provided, by the Kawaroa Park Society, and cards and tables by the Soldiers’ Club, the Workers’ Council and the East End Committee, and as “time*’ was called the Pierrots registered the winners of each heat. Messrs. Brookman and Flannagan again justified the confidence that had 'been placed in them as canvassers, for they had collected an excellent supper, which Mrs. Jenkin and her committee dispensed. The prizewinners at the card table were: Ladies, Miss Davey 1, Mrs. Martin 2, and Mrs. Home 3; gentlemen, Mr. Mcßoy 1, Mr. P. O’Shannessey 2, and Mr. G. Lister 3. Special ladies’ prize, donated by Mrs. Arthur Berridge, was won by Mrs. Evans, and consolation prizes donated by Mrs. and Miss Baldovk came to Mr. W. Schultz and Mrs. Watson, Waitara. After supper all the company joined in the dancing, which was kept up till about midnight. The takings amounted to roughly £45. TO-DAY’S MARKETS. The butcher’s shop and Paddy’s Market to-day should be the means of giving a big fillip to the total funds already in hand. Messrs. Webster Bros, have placed their mart at the disposal’ of the Pierrots for their butcher’s shop, which will be under the capable supervision of Mr. Openshaw. Messrs. Andrews and Cowley have placed their butcher's delivery van and a driver, and Mr. A. Lisle, of Inglewood, his car at the disposal of the committee, and orders will be delivered in any part of the town. The meat has all been cut into joints, etc., and priced, and as the beef is guaranteed to be prime oxen it is expected that most of the householders will purchase their week-end requirements at the mart. In addition ’ turkeys, ducks, geese, and fowls will be on sale, while some succulent pieces of wild pig will be available. The telephone number of the mart is 300. At the entrance to Everybody’s Theatre flowers, fruit, cakes and a host of other household commodities will be on sale by the ladies’ committee in conjunction with the Y.W.C.A. There wiD be any number of willing helpers, who are asked to assemble not later than 9 a.m., and purcliasers may be sure of receiving quick attention as well as value for their money. This mart will be open to the public at 9.30. The Pierrots are asked to assemble at the Soldiers’ Club at 11 o'clock and will parade the town in Mr. F. Bremhul’s motor lorry till night disposing of tickets in the art unions. Permission to hold another 20 raffles has been obtained and some good prizes are offered.
